PANEL DISCUSSION: Data Governance for a Digitally-Enabled State

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted how data has demanded rapid and evidence-based decisions in critical situations. Yet data governance remains a challenge for many countries. A data-driven public sector allows data sharing and re-use across critical areas (e.g. healthcare, employment, education, social welfare) in a transparent and agile way; it strengthens planning, delivery and monitoring of results; it also builds public trust in governments and respect for digital rights. The session will look at what needs to be done to realise the potential of a full data-driven public sector.

Speakers:

  • Paula Forteza, French Member of Parliament, French National Assembly
  • Dr. Julia Glidden, Corporate Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector, Microsoft Corporation
  • Stefaan Verhulst, Co-Founder, The GovLab
  • Chan Cheow Hoe, Deputy Chief Executive, Government Technology Agency, Singapore
