Mary Wiley-Smith, Deputy Australian Public Service Commissioner

Mary Wiley-Smith is the Deputy Australian Public Service Commissioner, a role she has held since 3 September 2018. Mary was previously at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, working on the Independent Review of the Australian Public Service.

Prior to joining the Review, Mary led the pioneering of ‘city deals” in both the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, and in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. She was previously the Chief Operating Officer for the Department of Environment and Energy, where she also led the Strategic Review of the Department, and established their Sustainability, Policy and Analysis Division.

Mary has over 25 years in the Australian Public Service, and has a breadth of experience in building workforce capability and in driving reform. She has held senior executive roles in the Australian Government leading work on sustainability, climate change, cities and urban policy, energy efficiency, housing affordability and supply, and renewable energy.

Mary has a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.
